Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Doubles the Series' Protagonist Roster — and That's a Franchise First
Shift Up's CEO confirms Blood Rain introduces a second named main character — the first time the franchise has ever expanded its lead roster.
Stellar Blade has always been Eve’s story. With Blood Rain, Shift Up is writing someone else into that title.
Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim explained the design thinking behind Stellar Blade: Blood Rain’s new protagonist in a recent interview with IGN — confirming that the sequel introduces a second named main character to the series. That brings the total protagonist count in the Stellar Blade universe to 2, up from the single lead who carried the original 2024 PlayStation 5 release. One new character is a 100% roster expansion when you’re starting from one, and it’s the biggest structural creative swing the franchise has taken.
The original Stellar Blade built its identity entirely around Eve — her design, her arc, her combat. Blood Rain doesn’t discard that; it doubles it. Per Kim’s comments to IGN, the new lead is a deliberate design choice, not a cameo, meaning every future Stellar Blade entry will now be measured against the two-protagonist model Shift Up is establishing here.
No platforms or release window for Blood Rain have been confirmed yet. But the creative direction is already set: this isn’t a sequel tweak, it’s a franchise-first expansion of what Stellar Blade fundamentally is.
